Kim Win's The Stephen Sutton Award

Kim is delighted to be the recipient of The Stephen Sutton Award at the Brummies 2016. Kim states "This is not only a great honour, but a huge responsibility to receive an award that was born after the tragic loss of a national hero" It was made extra special when her life long idol Bev Bevan presented it to her.

Losers Weighting To Raise Money

Support On The Run.

On 31st, the Great Midlands Fun Run took place and despite the weather there were hundreds running and we're proud that almost 40 runners supported us - very humbling, thank you!

Thank You Swanshurst Girls School...

Year 9 pupils remember their friend Sanah and presented us with a cheque for £1122.70 following their fundraising over four days in her honour.

This day saw the charity make its mark in history as our Asthma Training Module is launched.

GCMF Go Back To The Good Old Days

Our bank holiday event saw the charity hold its first Vintage family fun day at the Aston Manor Transport Museum, Aldridge. The Mayor of Walsall was in attendance and a great day was had by all, we raised a mighty £1600.00!!

Almost Time To Take A Breather! But Not Until The Kits Are In Every School...

Please see the Welcome Page for a fuller update...After 12 years of campaigning we're almost there - From 1 October 2014 schools will be allowed to keep Emergency Asthma Kits on their premises.

This is only one step towards a brighter future, we are working hard with Education for Health to ensure every school has the access to the information they need to impliment the new measures.

Not A Nurse This Time - She's An Asthma Physiotherapist!

We are delighted to announce the fund now has an Asthma Physiotherapist at The George Elliot Hospital, Nuneaton. Our Physio will be covering Nuneaton and Coventry working with children affected by Asthma.

The Narnia Ball was held in Memory of one of the founding members of our charity: Nora Dufficy, who sadly passed away.  The Dufficy Family and friends continued their support, raising vital funds for the charity in Nora’s name, keeping her memory alive for all of us.

We're Getting There - Another One!!!

New Asthma Nurse is appointed for Dudley Primary Care Trust

2010 Annual Ball

Our Charity Ball date was Saturday 13th November 2010 at The Burlington Hotel in Birmingham.
The theme was a Victorian Christmas and much merriment was had by all.
The night was a huge success, raising approximately £30,000, keeping our Asthma Nurses in place.

Bollywood Night At Vodka Revolution Bar

Students of UCB class of 2010 held a Bollywood night at Vodka Revolution Bar, Birmingham on 17th May 2010. The entertainment was amazing, and whole night took you to an exotic and beautiful place, with dancers, singers and the amazing dhal drums.

Along with a street collection in Birmingham City centre, they raised a fabulous £638.13, for the charity, we are so grateful to them for all their hard work and commitment to our charity.

Presenting Petition To The Prime Minister

On May 4th 2010 we handed the petition into No 10, asking for Emergency Asthma Kits to be placed in all our schools, to support pupils and teachers making school a safer environment for everyone.

We presented 5333 signatures and would like to thank everyone who took the time and the trouble to sign it.

We will keep you all updated with any news as and when we get it.

New Website Launches!

Today saw the lauch of our shiny new website!

We will be updating our site as often as possible, with all the latest news and events being added at least once a month.

10th Anniversary Fund Raising Event

Students at UCB Birmingham, held massive fundraising event to raise money for the charity to celebrate our 10th anniversary on 13th January 2010 to co-inside with what would have been George's birthday. The night was an amazing success even though there was 3ft of snow and the roads were impassable! 500 wonderful students still managed to turn up!

The Event Management students whom we all love dearly at the charity, with the help of the Students Guild, raised a staggering £3123.00. The yellow dinosaur cocktail and the vodka jellies went down a treat! The night was finished off when the students presented the charity with a fabulous birthday cake which was taken to St Marks R C Junior and Infants school where George-O-Saurus shared it with all the delighted children.

In Loving Memory Of Katie

In memory of their beautiful daughter Katie, Kerry and Warren Shugar began supporting our charity, organising their own fundraising events for children affected by Asthma.

Andy Appears On Celebrity Who Wants' To Be A Millionaire Tuesday 8th September 2009

Andy Townsend joined Steve Ryder on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, the pair came away with £50,000 meaning that the George Coller Memorial Fund won a total of £25,000.

Everyone at the Charity is delighted with Andy's efforts on behalf of the George Coller Memorial Fund and would like to thank him for his outstanding contribution.

The money will make a vital contribution towards keeping our George Coller Asthma Nurse at the Birmingham Childrens Hospital.

Gentlemen's Night Out 5th June 2009

The Gentlemans Night Out is an organisation based in Birmingham which raises huge amounts of money for many worthy causes. I am pleased and honoured to say that yet again they have very kindly considered our charity worthy of a donation.

Another Step Towards A Brighter Future

P.E teachers from 500 schools get Asthma training.

NHS meeting 7th May 2009

Charity Chair Kim Douglas met with the Health Minister, Ann Keen MP along with local MP Khalid Mahmood on 7th May, to discuss possible ways of improving Asthma care in schools.

Emergency Asthma Kits In Schools Petition Launched On World Asthma Day 4th May 2009

The George Coller Memorial Fund launched a petition, that was handed in to Number 10 Downing Street on this year’s World Asthma Day (4th May), demanding that our schools are given emergency Asthma kits. This will make our schools safer for children with Asthma.

Jeremy Kyle attended our recent Grand Charity Ball and kindly offered his continued support.

The Ball was a huge success and we are extremely grateful for Mr Kyles contribution to the evening.

Christie contacted us earlier this year and touched us deeply. She recently participated in a sponsored walk and raised £118. Having lost her brother Mitchell to asthma she donated all of this to the George Coller Memorial Fund in memory of him.

Memorial Service Prayers Across The U.K In Churches And Schools For World Asthma Day 2008

Schools across Birmingham held prayers for the victims of childhood Asthma and their families on World Asthma Day May 6th. St Marks RC School in Great Barr hosted the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Birmingham along with the press.

The George Coller Memorial Fund held a Memorial Service in 2008 to remember all the children who have died from Asthma in the United Kingdom.

Kim Douglas said " Having lost a child to Asthma I know all to well the devastating effects of this illness. Every seven hours a life is claimed through Asthma related illness in the UK and inevitably there are children still losing their lives due to this chronic condition.

I strongly feel a need to highlight, honour and reflect on these tragic losses of life and I hope to bring parents and families together to remember not just my son but other children who have lost their lives to Asthma"

We are currently working with Local MPs and putting together information regarding the need for a National Service Framework for Asthma!

We feel it is imperative to the healthcare and well being of our children with Asthma that the Government take Asthma seriously and implement a working framework.

Action Asthma Awards Launched 5th June 2006

As announced in the Great Barr Observer, the George Coller Memorial Fund launched its Action Asthma Awards.

The Asthma Action Awards were presented to children who have achieved, despite their Asthma. For example, a child who achieves well in sport, a child who has missed time off school due to Asthma but still does well in their studies.

We also wanted to recognise children in school who are supportive of their friends with Asthma. Maybe even a child who has saved the life of someone with Asthma.

We also recognised the work that teachers do in schools to promote a positive message about Asthma and the work of school Nurses.

The awards were presented on the 15th July 2006.

Spencer Cox Rides From Lands End To John o'Groats!

Spencer Cox finished RIDE 2006 from Lands End to John o' Groats it was an arduous journey but incredibly worthwhile.

Spencer Cox completed his journey from Lands End to John o' Groats raising money for the George Coller Memorial Fund on the way.

The journey was difficult and long and not helped by the poor weather. However a real adventure for all and we would like to offer our huge thanks and congratulations to Spencer!

School Nurse Training Is Annually Launched In May 2006

School Nurses from across Birmingham received vital Asthma training, sponsored and paid for by The George Coller Memorial Fund. The training went extremely well and was well received by all.

Asthma Aid starts.

The whole year is dedicated to raising awareness for Asthma and Excercise. Asthma Aid, Asthma Sport, Asthma Aid 2. All schools in West Midlands were given the oportunity to get involved. Concluded in early 2004 with chidren drawing and the best two drewaing became a badge.

Blow Me Down - New Equipment Helps Staff At The Children's Hospital.

We buy three Spirometers for The Diana Princess of Wales Children's Hospital, Birmingham. A spirometer measures lung function and is much needed in the fight against Asthma.

Local boys in blue weigh in and start the fundraing swapping lb's for £'s. PC's Andy Lewis and Martin McDowell lost two and a half stone each and raise £1500. PC Keith Brookes, their manager becomes a Trustee.
